Day 1 itinerary: Chi Mei Museum → Zhong Wei Noodle House → Chi Mei Food Happiness Factory → Er Kong Yan Jing Scallion Pancake → Shi Gu Cultural Park → A Yu Shabu Shabu → Accommodation: San Dao Men

Day 1 Itinerary

First stop
Tainan Rende District Attractions | Chimei Museum

Tainan Rende Attractions 001
Tainan Rende Attractions 002

Finally, I arrived at the long-awaited Chimei Museum. The museum is super large and beautiful, covering an area of 9.5 hectares. The European palace-style architecture is super eye-catching. Not long after entering the park, I encountered an Apollo fountain water dance show. It was such a spectacular scene that I almost forgot to pick up the camera to capture its beauty. These statues show the scene of Apollo, the sun god, jumping out of the sea in his chariot. On all four sides of Apollo are Poseidon and dolphins blowing horns, as if announcing the arrival of the sun god to the world. The scene of water dance adds to the majestic atmosphere. Walking on the Olympus Bridge, there are 12 statues of the main gods of the Olympus Temple standing on both sides. The large square is also perfect for picnics with friends or families. When you enter the museum, the high-ceilinged lobby looks super grand. The permanent exhibition areas in the museum are divided into the Animal Hall, Weapons Hall, Rodin Hall, Art Hall, Musical Instruments Hall and other areas. There is a service for renting audio guides at the counter. The detailed explanation will allow visitors to better understand the meaning of these works, but it must be requested in advance before entering. The Animal Hall displays a variety of animal specimens and fossils. It is the children’s favorite area and the most suitable area for parent-child interaction. Witness the wonders of life on Earth by going through the corridors of life evolution, penetrating the vastness of life, and flying across the world. The weapons hall displays a large collection of various ancient weapons, including weapons and armor from Europe, China, Africa, ancient India and other regions, from swords, bows and arrows to firearms and artillery, and even Japanese samurai armor. It really opened my eyes! These rich collections are in no way inferior to those of foreign museums.

The permanent exhibition area of the Musical Instrument Hall is divided into two major themes: “First Try to Raise the Voice – Master Luthier and His Works” and “The Sound of Music – World Musical Instruments and Music”. Although I only know a little about musical instruments, I can appreciate Mr. Xu’s love and care for these instruments. It’s like a mother’s care for her children. It’s full of good intentions!

The Art Hall mainly displays Western art works from the 13th to 20th centuries, and each piece of art reflects the contemporary look and appeal.

This area of the Rodin Hall mainly displays Auguste. Sculptures by Rodin. Among them, The Thinker is one of Rodin’s most representative works. There are currently 25 The Thinker painted by Rodin himself around the world, and 3 in Taiwan, which are currently on display in the Chi Mei Museum, the Asia Museum of Modern Art in Taichung, and the Macronix Museum at National Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu.

It took more than 3 hours to view the exhibition and take photos in the museum. It was almost time for lunch, so let’s set off for the second stop!

Second stop
Tainan Rende District Food Stores | Zhongwei Noodle House

This noodle shop was introduced to me by a friend. I heard that it was a little hard to find without a sign. I parked my car and walked into the alley to start looking for it. I saw people queuing from afar. Sure enough, this was it. I didn’t need to look for it at all. I knew it by looking at the long queue. Just like other noodle shops, there are some automatically picked-up braised dishes at the door. Although they are not priced appropriately, they are not expensive. The braised dishes are not only well-seasoned but also have a nostalgic taste of the old days. A friend recommended that we must order the pickled mustard tuber and shredded pork noodles, so we ordered the pickled mustard tuber and shredded pork noodles and vermicelli. The pickled mustard tuber and shredded pork soup is freshly cooked and fried, not a big pot already cooked and waiting on the side, so the proprietress’s hands never stopped, it made me tired just watching! The pickled mustard and shredded pork are freshly fried and served with a rich soup, it’s really great! It is indeed completely different from the pickled mustard and shredded pork noodle soup in ordinary noodle shops. I really recommend it! ! Halfway through the meal, I found that the queue was getting longer and longer, so if you want to eat here, it’s best to avoid the peak hours~

Third stop

Tainan Rende District Attractions | Chi Mei Foods Happy Factory

台南仁德區景點 | 台南景點 | 奇美食品幸福工廠

The third stop was the Chi Mei Foods Factory, which is located directly opposite the Tainan Airport and is a tourist factory established by Chi Mei Foods. It’s about 50 meters from the parking lot to the entrance. Most of the facilities in the museum are suitable for parent-child interaction. If you have children at home, this should be a very suitable place to come! The entrance ticket is NT$50 per person, but if you do not enter the Shao Bao Brand Image Hall, there is no entrance fee for visiting and shopping outside the hall. The museum area is divided into a sales area, a creative workshop (experience area), a Shaobao brand image hall, a theater hall, etc. As soon as you enter the entrance, you will see the Shao Bao Image Museum. Just buy a ticket and go in to take a look. This museum is mainly divided into six themes, including: Chi Mei Impression, Good Food Origin, Baozi Storytelling, Decoding the Production Process, Food Fashion and Lohas, and Chi Mei Happy Street. There are many parent-child interactive game facilities inside. Through parent-child interactive games, not only can the parent-child relationship be enhanced, but also a chance for education. Chimei Xingfu Street is a popular photo-taking spot for internet celebrities. Each store has a different appearance and style and sells different delicacies. When you come to the Baozi Manzu Shop, remember to exchange your admission ticket for buns! The steamed bun doll next to it is super eye-catching~~Then we went to the Vitality Ice Fruit Parlor, Fortune Dumpling House, Pineapple Cake Baby, and Reunion Tea House. Every store is great for taking photos! As you walk out of the Shao Bao restaurant, you will see the sales area. If you are hungry, you can have lunch here~ There are quite a variety of snacks and fried foods for sale, and there are also tables and chairs for people to stay for a while. On the other side is the DIY experience area. You need to make an appointment online in advance to make cup cakes, pineapple cakes or steamed dumplings. Chi Mei Foods Tourist Factory is not only very cute but also has many interactive games. It is fun and photogenic, making it a great tourist attraction.

Fourth stop
Tainan Rende District Food Stores | Erkong Yanjing Scallion Pancake

台南仁德區景點 | 台南景點 | 奇美食品幸福工廠

A friend also introduced the scallion pancake shop Erkong to me. Since they only sell pancakes until the evening, I decided to stop by before heading to Shigu! In fact, there is a delicious cold noodles restaurant nearby, but it only serves food until noon, so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to eat it. This shop only offers take-out and no dine-in. When you walk to the door, you can see the owner kneading dough, wrapping and frying it on the spot. Overall, it looks quite clean. Sour plum juice that looks like a blood bag has become a hot topic on IG recently. The drinks aren’t that tasty, most of them are bought just for checking in on Instagram. A scallion pancake costs 100 yuan. Because it is so big and I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to finish it, I bought a 25 yuan one and a wrap. The scallion pancake is crispy and not greasy, the crust is just the right thickness, and not too much pepper and salt is sprinkled on it. It really lives up to its reputation… delicious! ! The burrito is filled with plenty of fillings, a little spicy and filled with sauerkraut and dried tofu. It is really great value for money.

Fifth stop
Tainan Rende District Attractions | Ten Drum Cultural Park

台南仁德區景點 | 台南景點 | 十鼓文化園區

This stop is also an attraction that I am looking forward to the most during this trip. Shigu was originally a sugar factory during the Japanese colonial period. After planning, it was transformed into a large drum music performance hall. Here, you can not only enjoy wonderful drum music performances from foreign countries, but also combine art and cultural and creative planning. It has become Asia’s first drum music theme international art village. This year in 2021, the factory also has a Harry Potter school of magic scene, coupled with a flying book, which is super grand and spectacular. Here you will see that most people are very busy with their cameras, busy collecting these beautiful scenes. The key point is that you can capture these beautiful scenes without flying to the UK, which is super worth it! It’s also “free” here, yes “free”, change into wizard costume and you can transform into a magician in a second.

Performance Hall

When I walked into the performance hall and looked down at the floor, I was so scared that my legs went weak, because it was like walking on a skywalk. The ground was transparent and suspended in the air, about 2 floors high, so people who are afraid of heights should be careful! This performance hall was converted from an old factory building and has an industrial style. Since the Ten Drum Band began to perform there in 2006, it has given the old sugar factory new life. The performance was magnificent and awesome! If you still don’t feel satisfied after watching the performance, the park has set up a drumming experience area where those who want to play drums can experience the fun of drumming.

There are more than 20 kinds of amusement facilities here. We only have half a day, so we definitely can’t enjoy them all. In other words, if you want to enjoy all of them, you must plan a whole day to visit this place! And before playing, you must first check the opening hours of various amusement facilities to avoid returning disappointed.

If there are too many people in the indoor experience hall, you can consider the outdoor playground, which has many amusement facilities and is a good place to relax.

Landscape area

What is quite special about this area is the “Five Elements Sacred Tree”, an aerial walkway designed based on the five elements of gold, wood, water, fire and earth in the sugar-making process. It not only runs through three large honey jars, but also winds around a century-old banyan tree. It is 15 meters high, 5 meters low and 349 meters long in total.

Suggestions after touring the entire area: Many amusement facilities are only open in the afternoon, so it is recommended to enter the park after noon or just buy a starry sky ticket. The ticket price is relatively cheap, and the park should be super beautiful at night~~ Next time I will buy a starry sky ticket to experience the park!

Sixth stop
Tainan Rende District Food Stores | Ayu Hotpot

台南仁德區景點 | 台南景點 | 十鼓文化園區

After playing so many amusement facilities, my stomach is growling now. I want to taste the delicious beef shabu-shabu as soon as possible. This is the flagship store, covering an area of 1,000 square meters. It not only has a parking lot, but also a spacious and comfortable dining area. It is different from the original store nearby, where parking spaces are difficult to find and the dining space inside the store is cramped. A-Yu Beef is one of the three famous warm-beef restaurants in Tainan. It’s hard to imagine that eating beef soup can be so comfortable! Since it is impossible to make a reservation in advance by phone, you can only queue up on site. There is no time limit for dining. The minimum consumption per person is 300 yuan, and no additional service fee will be charged. The design of the waiting area is very considerate, and it can even connect to WIFI. After waiting for about half an hour, I can finally eat~~

台南仁德區景點 | 台南景點 | 十鼓文化園區

After you are seated, you order your food first, and then you can go to the entrance on the first floor to pick up hot pot ingredients, drinks, etc. It is self-service and you can take whatever you want. The hot pot ingredients in the freezer are almost all priced at a flat price of 50 yuan. When you are getting the hot pot ingredients, there is an open kitchen on the other side of the aisle. You can clearly see the chefs busy cutting warm beef. It is easy to tell whether the food you eat is clean or not! The signature dish of this restaurant is the top-quality beef cuts. You cannot choose the part of the beef, and each plate is priced at 300 yuan. Because it is a buffet, you have to bring your own sauce and rice. Of course, when you come here, you must try the braised beef rice, which is free and unlimited! The soup base is only NT$100, and you can choose the beef ingredients you want to add to the pot. Having eaten at many beef restaurants in Tainan, the quality of the meat slices and the knife skills at A Yu Beef Restaurant left a deep impression on me.

Day 2 Itinerary

First stop
Tainan Rende District Food Stores | Tang Mama Breakfast

Before going to Hushan Forest Farm to absorb phytoncides, let’s have a good meal first~~ And this breakfast is only sold until 8:30 (really “early”), so if you don’t go early, you won’t be able to eat it. Friends said the fried dumplings were super delicious and a must-order!! We arrived before 8 o’clock, but it was still too late. Luckily there were still 5 fried dumplings left, so we quickly ordered fried dumplings, egg pancakes and pancakes. We also wanted to try the scallion pancake to see how it was different from what we had at Erkong yesterday, but it was sold out and I can’t comment on it. The fried dumplings are quite big. Although they are 7 yuan each, which is more expensive than the ones sold in the market, they are big and have a lot of ingredients, so they are actually not expensive. The bottom of the fried dumplings is “煎搁恰” (Taiwanese), which means crispy. The pork and leek fillings have just the right saltiness, not too salty or too bland. The thick fried dumpling skin is chewy and delicious with the pork and leek fillings, even without any dipping sauce! The amount of the omelet is not large. The crust is made by frying the batter into a crispy and fragrant crust, and then topped with scattered eggs and fried. It tastes chewy and a bit chewy but not dry. Instead, it is full of moisture and filled with the aroma of egg. It has an old-fashioned flavor and is unexpectedly delicious! The surface of the pancake is sprinkled with white sesame seeds, which is very fragrant! Although the taste is a bit dry, the crust is clearly layered, a bit like a thousand-layer pie. It is slightly chewy and the more you chew it, the more flavorful it becomes. The chopped green onions in the filling become more fragrant, making you want to eat one bite after another.

Second stop
Tainan Rende District Food Store | Erkong Village Chief Zhang’s Cold Noodles

Tainan Rende Attractions 013
Tainan Rende Attractions 012

Although I just had breakfast, this cold noodle restaurant is right next to the breakfast shop and is highly recommended by my friends, so I decided to stop by and try it.

The store is not big, with only two tables for inside use, and most of the customers come to buy take-out.

The signature cold noodles are 30 yuan, and the cold skin + cold noodles are 35 yuan. They are served with shredded cucumber and bean sprouts. Those who like spicy food can add some chili sauce. It tastes smooth and fragrant. It is the best appetizer to cool down in the hot summer. The dough is handmade by the boss, it is chewy and springy, and paired with the unique sauce, it is simply amazing! There are two kinds of noodles: traditional cold noodles and special cold skin noodles. This kind of cold skin noodles is limited in quantity. If you haven’t tried it, you can try it. It tastes more chewy than ordinary noodles. In addition to cold noodles, the boss also has homemade fermented tofu, sweet wine, pickled kohlrabi, dried radish, etc., which are very popular among gourmets.

Third stop
Tainan Rende District Attractions | Niuchouzai Station (Park)

Tainan Rende Attractions 014
Tainan Rende Attractions 015

Niu Chou Zi Station is a popular check-in destination recently. Since it is a check-in destination, of course you have to make a pilgrimage~~The station is located in Chenggong 2nd Street Alley. It was originally overgrown with weeds, but later it was planned to be a park. There was originally no branch railway here. The rails were moved from other places, and a simple platform was built. Because it is in Chenggong, the station was named after its old name Niu Chou Zi. The entire railway branch and platform have been moved here in their original form as a tourist attraction. It is an alternative train station without trains, which is really special.

Tainan Rende Attractions 016
Tainan Rende Attractions 017

There is a retro bus stop sign and a seating area for waiting for the bus in the park. This scene really makes me feel like I’m back to the feeling of waiting for the bus and taking the bus when I was a child. It’s so touching! There is a double happiness character at the back of the park. I saw on Instagram that some people come here to take wedding photos. In fact, this park is not very big, but it is a great photo spot. If you are going to Chimei Museum or Shigu, you can stop by and take a look! The only drawback at the moment is that there is no toilet, so people who come from other places to take photos have to go to the toilet first!

Tainan Rende Attractions 018
Tainan Rende Attractions 019

Fourth stop
Tainan Rende District Attractions | Hushan Forest Farm

Next, we are going to absorb phytoncide~~ Walk along the outer wall of Hushan Elementary School for about 5 minutes, and you can see a large forest. Because of this, Hushan Elementary School is also called Forest Elementary School, because this elementary school is surrounded by forests when viewed from a high altitude. The elementary school students who go to school here should be very healthy!

Hushan Forest Farm is also known as Xiguashan Forest Trail or Hushan Forest Trail, but there are no tigers on Hushan; and Xiguashan is not a mountain because there are no watermelons. This forest farm was originally the Hushan Farm belonging to the Rende Sugar Factory. After the sugar factory ceased production, the Hushan Farm was replanned to afforestation on flat land and became a forest farm. The trees in the forest farm include Terminalia microcarpa, Eucalyptus citrifolia, Mahogany, etc. There are many trees that I don’t recognize, but there is a tree that has been very popular recently, the golden oak. The blooming season in May and June is like a golden rain, so beautiful! Hushan Forest Farm also grows a lot of goldenrod, which should be a beautiful check-in spot during the blooming season.

There are ten parallel routes to choose from in the Hushan Forest Farm, and each subsequent area also has nearly ten routes to choose from, so there are hundreds of ways to walk, so that the scenery you see is different every time you enter the forest farm, and you will never repeat yourself no matter how you walk. It is quite unique and different from the general forest trail walking method.

Fifth stop
Tainan Rende District Food Stores | Zhang’s Dumplings

Tainan Rende Attractions 023
Tainan Rende Attractions 024

After hiking, it’s almost lunchtime, so let’s go eat some dumplings! Otherwise, there will be too many people at lunch time! Fortunately, it is not yet the peak dining time. Unlike the crowded scene when we came last time, there are not many people dining here now. We can take a good rest and eat slowly. The price has not increased, just like before. A dumpling is only 3 yuan, and wonton soup is only 15 yuan. The boss is really kind-hearted. Even the barley tea in the store is free to drink, but you can’t take it out. We ordered 20 dumplings, a bowl of wonton soup, a portion of shrimp fried rice and some braised dishes. Although the dumplings are only 3 yuan, don’t think that cheap means bad quality. I am a returning customer, and I ordered dumplings again this time because the dumplings are really good value for money. The dumplings are small but full of fillings made of cabbage, pork and onions. The dumpling skin is thin, so the whole bite is almost full of fillings. It’s no exaggeration! The portion of shrimp fried rice is also very generous, not sloppy at all, the rice is fried with each grain distinct, it is upper-middle grade, and the shrimps are also generous, a large plate for only 45 yuan. This restaurant is really crowded during meal times. Although the boss is quick and you won’t have to wait too long, if you want to eat there, it’s better to avoid it if possible.

Sixth stop
Tainan Rende District Attractions | Hongtai Hydrogel World

This tourist factory is the first factory in Taiwan to display hydrogel-related products. What is Hydrogel? In fact, I didn’t know much about it either. It was only after the museum staff explained it to me that I realized that hydrogels are widely used. They are used in medical equipment, health care equipment, medical beauty care and other items. The factory area is divided into two areas: the hydrogel knowledge hall and the outdoor hydrogel doll garden. Let’s go indoors first to listen to the staff’s explanation~~More than 30 years ago, most of Taiwan’s medical equipment was imported from abroad, and the prices were expensive and not affordable for ordinary people. The person in charge of Hongtai hopes that people can enjoy high-quality medical equipment while reducing huge medical expenses, so he began to invest in research and development. At the beginning, it was mainly based on various conductive gels and electrode patches for medical use. At that time, for medical institutions that only believed in foreign imports, no one dared to use Taiwan-made products, but now Taiwan-made products are a guarantee of quality. After establishing itself in Taiwan, it began to develop related medical equipment and successfully entered the international market, becoming Taiwan’s pride on the international stage. The tour guide made hydrogel on the spot, just like a magician. Through the guide’s experience and skillful hands, the contents in the cup solidified into a jelly-like state. Later, I was allowed to DIY it myself, just like slime. It could be turned into whatever I wanted it to be, and it would swell and swell~~ After it is shaped, it will swell when water is added, and will shrink when put into the oven. It can still become bigger or smaller. It is really interesting. There were many parents bringing their children to experience the event, and the children had a lot of fun!

Aroma Hall: Common fragrances in life are also a type of hydrogel. The tour guide also taught us how to choose safe fragrances. Thermal Therapy Center: Let us better understand how medical treatment uses hydrogels for hot and cold treatments. The fever patches, ice packs or hot packs commonly used in daily life have hydrogels added to change the rate of temperature change to extend the use time of the product. Electrotherapy center: Electrotherapy patch is also one of the applications of hydrogel. When it is attached to a specific part, the hydrogel will massage and contract the patch, making it very safe to use low frequency when the muscles are sore. The outdoor hydrogel doll garden is filled with a variety of hydrogel dolls of all sizes, and there are even plants grown using hydrogel, which is super special! Mixing water and hydrogel and adding them to the nutrient solution of hydroponic plants can not only retain moisture but also allow nutrients to be evenly and fully absorbed by the plants, reducing soil pollution and waste of water resources.

Seventh stop
Tainan Rende District Attractions | Taiju Cosmetics Tourism Factory

Taiju Cosmetics is the first cosmetics-focused tourist factory in Taiwan. Seeing all kinds of dazzling cosmetics, this place is simply a pilgrimage site for beauty lovers! Before entering the museum, the plants planted outdoors caught my attention. This small garden grows many plant raw materials needed for the skin care products or cosmetics we use, such as rosemary, lavender, stevia, etc. You can learn about many plants and flowers in this garden, it’s really interesting! The museum has three floors. There are DIY experience activities on the second floor, but you must make an appointment in advance. Registration fee: 200 yuan, divided into two sessions, morning and afternoon. The morning session is hand cream and essence, and the afternoon session is hand cream and lip balm. However, I think the DIY content should be subject to change at any time, if anyone wants to experience it, they should ask first. Halfway through the tour, I suddenly wanted to go to the bathroom. This dressing room is so luxurious! In addition to the good lighting, the design inside is really beautiful, which made me take pictures non-stop~~ I even took selfies non-stop in the toilet… ha~~ The cosmetics manufactured by Taiju Beauty all over the world are really beyond my imagination. They have products manufactured in the United States, Japan, France, and even Arabia. In addition to cosmetics for adults, there are also safe cosmetics for children. This is because girls in foreign countries actually start using cosmetics at a very early age, so they are really attentive to the safety and design of cosmetics! In addition to manufacturing products for brands around the world, Taigico also launched its own brand, CITY COLOR. This brand is sold in several countries around the world and has become popular in Taiwan. It can be considered an alternative pride of Taiwan. This sales area is the only place that makes me interested in doing a lot of shopping. It’s a great place for shopping and the products are really good!
