“Don’t you find that every trip to Tainan turns into a race? Racing to queue for beef soup, racing to photograph the fashionable places, and getting home more tired than a day at work?
Welcome to today’s episode. This time we want you to experience the most luxurious way to spend 2026 in Tainan — doing nothing at all. We will check you into3 Door Hotelright beside the railway station, where a dedicated butler brings breakfast while you linger in bed; and then you choose just one place a day to go out to. Will it be brunch with themeerkats, takeaway desserts beside thecapybaras, or gazing atjellyfishin Anping?
Ready? Throw away the diary and practise slow travel with us!”
[Tainan Subtraction Travel] It’s fine not to visit the sights
Is this you too? Every time you come to Tainan you draw up a long list, and all you remember afterwards is the traffic lights while rushing and the impatience of queueing. When you scroll throughhotel recommendations in Tainan, does the dizzying choice not leave you more tired still?

This time, let us reset the itinerary to zero. What if, travelling in 2026, we did only two things:sleep properly, and choose one place to sit and do nothing.
This is a proposal with no timetable. The lead is3 Door Hotel, with a supporting cast of a few soothing corners we have chosen. You need not go to them all — just pick one according to how you feel when you wake.
🏠 Base of operations: 3 Door Hotel
“We travel to win back the right not to go out.”
3 Dooron Chenggong Road enjoys an excellent position very close to the transport hub, which is why it appears so often on lists ofplaces to stay near Tainan Railway Station. But what really draws people is how it holds onto quiet within all that bustle. This is not a staging post where you shower and sleep, but a home that will spoil you.
If we are talking about the warmestplaces to stay in Tainan, 3 Door is certainly among them. Why say you need not go out? Because there is adedicated butler.
here. When you wake naturally, there is no need to go out and compete with tourists for beef soup: your butler will bring youa personalised local breakfast.
🍳 A private taste in your room:
It might be milkfish congee simmered until the grains blossom, or a sweet, clear bowl of fresh beef soup (depending on the seasonal menu). The point is that you can enjoy it in a bathrobe on the terrazzo floor of your own room — no queue, no make-up.
Return to your room in the afternoon and you may find selected Tainan preserved fruit or traditional sweets on the table — a small gesture from a butler worried you might be hungry.
The cypress fragrance in the room is very quiet, and you can even go up to the rooftop sky garden for the breeze. Here, doing nothing is not waste but the greatest luxury of all.
(Remember: one a day. Save the rest for next time, or for regret)
[Option A: for when you need some comfort]
📍 Mr. Meerkat Brunch
(For: 10am, if you are willing to get up and be surrounded by charming animals)
If you will leave the building for the sake of cuteness, go to Mr. Meerkat. There is no clamour here, only meerkats standing up and grooming with their endearingly vacant expressions.

🍽 What to order: eating gentleness
The connoisseur’s first choice. The beef is braised until tender without falling apart, every fibre soaked with rich red wine sauce and a mature fragrance in each mouthful. Mopping the sauce with bread is the most satisfying way to open a morning.
Seared golden and crisp on the outside with a pleasing bite. The herbs are clean on the palate, and served with house caramelised apple slices, savoury and sweet interweave to open the appetite.
Do not underestimate these two scoops! They are as smooth as ice cream, and the natural sweetness dissolves in the mouth — the reason many people come back.

Full? Then go back to the hotel for a nap.
[Option B: for when you do not want to talk and only want quiet]
📍 Pa Chong Coffee (reptile cafe)
(For: after 2pm, when you want to escape the crowds and the sun)
If you do not feel like speaking today, this reptile cafe is the best hiding place there is. Chameleons hang quietly on branches, geckos press against the glass. They neither fuss nor clamour, and they do not even need your attention.

☕️ What to pair it with: a bittersweet, grown-up afternoon
When you are too tired even to choose, this is the gentlest kind of thoughtfulness. It might be a house sparkling drink or a pour-over — leave the surprise to the owner.
The waffles here are substantial, crisp outside and soft within. The bitterness of the chocolate is well judged and never cloying, and with a scoop of ice cream you get a lovely alternation of hot and cold.
The crack of a spoon through the caramel top is the most soothing sound of the afternoon. Beneath it the custard is smooth and rich, full of the fragrance of egg.

[Option C: for when you want a sunset and something sweet]
📍 Tait & Co. Merchant House
(For: around 4pm, when you want a different kind of view)
If the city centre feels stifling, take a car out to the Tait & Co. Merchant House in Anping. There is the solidity of old architecture here, and jellyfish drifting slowly in their tanks.

🍹 The pairing we suggest: a cool breeze in a glass, and one sweet bite
This is a drink that brings its own breeze. The pomelo fragrance is clean and refreshing, with sweetness and acidity finely balanced; one sip seems to rinse away the heat of a Tainan afternoon.
This one tastes very much of Tainan. The crisp brown-sugar pengbing shell is eaten together with melting ice cream; the sweetness is restrained but the texture is full of layers.

🛍️ [Takeaway option: for when you truly cannot move]
📍 MOGU KABI tart shop
If you lack even the energy to sit down and eat in, go to MOGU KABI for takeaway. Glance at the charming capybaras through the window and take a few desserts away with you.

🍰 What to eat back at the hotel?
An absolute must. The pastry is crisp without being greasy, and the macadamias wear a thin sugar coating; one bite fills your mouth with nuttiness and nothing sticks to your teeth.
If you like sourness, the lemon tart here delivers! The lemon filling is smooth and bright, and with the buttery pastry it cuts through beautifully.
Full marks for looks. Covered with seasonal fruit — strawberry, grape or mango — with fresh cream that stays light rather than heavy. Perfect to take back to 3 Door.

And then? And then go back to 3 Door Hotel.Back to the room where a butler is waiting and a comfortable big bed is waiting. Brew a cup of hot tea, eat your tart, and give the rest of the time entirely to yourself.
🍳 Stay at 3 Door and wake your palate
3 Door Hotel offers staying guests a breakfast add-on available only to residents, featuring legendary Tainan institutions trading for more than sixty years — no queue, brought to you directly by your butler.
Breakfast add-on | NT$400 per portion

Main: Xiluodian beef soup
Xiluodian simmers beef bones, brisket, beef fat and onion slowly with nothing artificial, producing a broth that is clear yet distinctly layered. With a bowl of savoury minced beef rice, this is how Tainan begins the day.

Main: A-han savoury congee
A-han’s congee is built around milkfish, following the Quanzhou half-congee method. The fish is delicate and tender, the broth clear and sweet, and dipping traditional youtiao gently into the soup is the most authentic way to enjoy it.

Main: Traditional vegetarian zongzi
Wrapped and steamed in shell ginger leaves, so a clean herbal note runs through the fragrance of the rice. The filling is plump peanuts, finished with sweet soy paste and peanut powder and served with mellow miso soup — simple, and worth lingering over.
