After a short rest, set out on foot from the hotel. Just ten minutes away stands a landmark of Tainan — Chihkan Tower. For stir-fried eel noodles on Guohua Street, we recommend this shop beside Yongle Market, “Fusheng Xiaoshi Eel Noodles”. Its stir-fried squid is excellent too. Because the owner’s movements while stir-frying the eel look like a cha-cha, she is also known as the queen of eel noodles on Guohua Street in Tainan
Features: The eel is extremely springy and crisp in texture, and together with slightly charred onion it gains an added sweetness. The lu-mian style eel noodles have a broth that is sweet, sour and lightly thickened, while the noodles keep a faint fluffiness. The whole dish is well balanced and never cloying. It is one of the eel noodle shops most highly regarded here in Tainan.

Morning Energy: Starting With a Generous Breakfast
Waking in the comfortable big bed at 3 Door Hotel, you are greeted by the soft sunlight of Tainan.
A ten-minute walk from the hotel brings you to Xiluodian Beef Soup in Tainan’s North District, a long-established shop that has been fragrant in this neighbourhood for years and is known for its fresh, delicious soup made with freshly slaughtered beef. It is deeply loved by locals and has also been named a Michelin Bib Gourmand, drawing many visitors who come on the strength of its reputationThe greatest feature of Xiluodian Beef Soup is the freshly slaughtered beef delivered daily from the abattoir in Shanhua. The shop slices it and blanches it to order so that guests taste it at its freshest. The broth is simmered from beef leg bones, brisket, beef fat and vegetables such as onion, giving it a clear, sweet flavour. Those who know the dish taste the broth plain first, then add a little rice wine to bring out the savour and to feel the different layers of flavour. A hot bowl of beef soupopens a second day full of energy. Today’s destination is Anping, a place full of stories.

A bus ride takes you easily to Anping Old Fort. Climb the observation tower for a full view of Anping and picture how bustling this place was a century ago. Right beside it, the Anping Tree House shows the fierce vitality of nature. The aerial roots of old banyan trees and an old warehouse are intricately entangled, forming a work of natural art that cannot fail to impress.
An Afternoon Secret: The Green Tunnel, Taiwan’s Own Amazon
For the afternoon we recommend something of an entirely different character — a trip to the Sicao Green Tunnel. Board a bamboo raft and drift slowly into the natural tunnel formed by mangroves. Sunlight filters down through the branches, the water glitters, and the rich wetland ecology on either side draws exclamations from everyone. The quiet beauty of this “Amazon of Taiwan” is sure to become one of the most unforgettable sights of your journey. Sadly, because of recent typhoon weather and continuous rain, it had been closed for ten days. As it happened, the day we went it was open again; the water level was a little high and the river water muddy, but that did not affect our enjoyment in the least.
Day Three: Through Art and Culture, Homeward With Arms Full of Memories

And this time, at 3 Door, I found the shape of home.
Stepping into the hotel, light and shadow fall across the wooden floor of the ground-floor lobby; the space is quiet and yet has warmth. The butler at the front desk looked up with a familiar smile. It was not a routine check-in but the greeting of an old friend: “How has your day been? Was the journey smooth?” In that moment I understood that this was not simply a place to spend the night.
Checking in was smooth and thoughtful, and the butler personally explained the design themes of each floor and the history behind them. Every floor here turned out to be a journey backwards through time. When the lift doors opened it was like stepping into another era. The corridor was quiet, the spatial design finely layered, and even the light on the room numbers was soft.
Inside the room the air was fresh and the bed neatly made, so inviting that you want to fall straight into it and let go. The temperature was just right, and the wooden furniture, the bathroom with its dry and wet areas separated, and the full set of tea and amenities all made it clear that these things were not merely “present” but “chosen with care”. What is here is not cold equipment but the kindness of being looked after.
The most unforgettable part is the rooftop sky garden. At night, sitting among that quiet greenery, you look down on all the gentle lights of Tainan. In the early morning, light and shadow fall on the walls and the wind blows through, and any worry disappears. Sometimes you meet other travellers and find yourself talking about which Tainan food you ate today and which lane you came back from — connection between people arises this naturally.
On the day of checking out the butler greeted me kindly once more and even asked about the change in the weather and my train time. The parting words were not “goodbye” but “welcome back again”.
