Open three doors and enter the green and low-carbon hotel
In order to allow travelers to practice green living in their accommodation, Chairman Li Xunting of San Dao Men Architectural and Cultural Hotel selected a large number of environmentally friendly building materials, energy-saving air conditioners and lamps, adopted a green supply chain to provide organic bathing supplies, and deepened energy management, waste management and water resource management, etc., making San Dao Men the only green and low-carbon hotel in Tainan. In addition, the historical and cultural context of Tainan can be seen everywhere in the hotel, making it won the first place in Tainan Design Hotel in 2021.
The Three Doors Architectural Cultural and Creative Hotel, which uses the image of opening three doors of “garage door, living room door, and room door” to convey the meaning of “welcome home”, has attracted many tourists with its design and service. Chairman Li Xunting worked in the construction industry in her early years, specializing in customized luxury homes. She often thought about “what kind of space should people live in?” Her emphasis on details and environmental control allowed her first luxury home to win a design award.
In 2014, the construction market was sluggish, but the cultural tourism market was booming, which gave Li Xunting the idea of innovative transformation. So she bought an 8-story building in Danhuang District, Tainan City, renovated it, and converted it into the ideal cultural and creative hotel in her mind. What’s special is that each room has a different design. From tiles and furniture to the atmosphere of the space, there are allusions to Tainan’s history and culture everywhere. Different floors also have themed designs, such as the 7th floor has the ladies’ style of the Dutch period, and the 6th floor has the style of the city during the Japanese colonial period.
Super environmentally friendly hotel, every detail is taken seriously
In the hotel space, Li Xunting insisted on a carpet-free and formaldehyde-free design, and used cypress furniture commonly found in luxury homes. “The natural smell of cypress wood can naturally dry out dust mites as long as the humidity is controlled at 45°C to 60°C. In addition, the anti-dust mite cleaning mat on the mattress allows people with allergies to stay here with peace of mind.”
She also insisted on using low-radiation building materials, thermal insulation coatings and thermal insulation bricks for the building itself, and energy-saving LED lights and energy-saving label equipment inside. Most importantly, the hotel’s corridors do not have air conditioning, but instead use energy-saving “heat pump” devices to create cold air, reducing the overall electricity bill by 25% to 30%. In addition, the company adopts a green supply chain and provides organic bath products, etc. Li Xunting emphasized: “I not only want to achieve environmental sustainability, but also want to give guests a sustainable concept, so that they can practice green living by staying at Sandomon.”
In addition to the concept and aesthetics, Li Xunting also pays great attention to service details: there is a 24-hour “Old-Fashioned Dim Sum Bar” next to the lobby, which can satisfy the taste buds of travelers at any time; the hotel adopts the spirit of British butlers and Japanese female generals, and there is a room show service when checking in, telling the story of the room and explaining the hotel’s environmental control practices. Women should not set limits on themselves, but should be brave enough to speak up
Looking back on her entrepreneurial journey, Li Xunting said that in the early days, there was insufficient information on the Internet and she had no way of knowing the global pulse. She could only seek advice from seniors, join associations, and take EMBA courses to continuously enrich her professional knowledge. However, architecture and construction are dominated by men. When I first started working in this field, I often felt the prejudice against women.
As the business grew, the second hotel also started operating. Li Xunting said, “I have always had clear goals and plans. I am not easily influenced and I expect myself to be a good role model!” She often encourages employees not to limit themselves, and encourages women who want to start a business: “Your steps must go as far as your thoughts!” Be brave to be a speaker, not an echoer.
Today, she continues to walk on the green path, collaborating with local industries, researching energy efficiency, deepening new knowledge on recycling, energy conservation, and environmental protection, and devoting herself to technological innovation. “I hope to provide the best environment for our guests and will stick to this goal.
