How to Play in Tainan
What are the most interesting things to do in Tainan? As an ancient cultural capital, Tainan has many historical sites and temples from different cultures. It includes many attractions that exude a literary and artistic atmosphere and museums that are full of artistic atmosphere. Below we will introduce some fun and interesting Tainan travel itineraries, allowing you to see the charm and culture of Tainan.

When talking about Tainan, how can we miss visiting the Chimei Museum! Founder Xu Wenlong believes that “Chimei Museum is a museum for the public.” With just a NT$200 ticket, you can enjoy more than 4,000 cultural treasures and immerse yourself in the artistic atmosphere. Students aged 7-22 can enjoy a discounted price of 150 yuan. If you want to visit a specific exhibition, you can purchase different tickets. If you don’t want to go in to visit, you can also go outside the museum to take pictures. The Apollo Fountain and Olympus Bridge outside are enough to make people stop and admire. This private museum with the richest collection in Taiwan is definitely a must-see attraction in Tainan!
Tainan Private Attractions︱Wusheng Night Market
- Alley 69, Wusheng Road, West Central District, Tainan City
- Business hours: Wednesday and Saturday 18:00 ~ 01:30
(The bustling Wusheng Night Market Source: Wusheng Night Market FB)
When it comes to a trip to Tainan Night Market, most people will probably plan to visit the Garden Night Market. But in fact, Wusheng Night Market is a private night market attraction that many Tainan people go to. Since other night markets are too popular and often crowded, the Wusheng Night Market, which is only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, has become a private attraction for many Tainan people. I would like to remind everyone to pay attention to the time if you want to go, otherwise you will end up going to a place with nothing.
Tainan Travel Recommendations for Filming Locations︱Jingliao Old Street
- No. 262, Houbi District, Tainan City
- Business hours: Varies depending on the store
(Jingliao Old Street still retains the flavor of the old times. Image source: flickr.com.)
Tainan Houbi Jingliao Old Street used to be a rest stop on the ancient official road from Tainan City to Zhuluo County. It used to be quite prosperous and lively. After the changes of the times and the passage of time, the old street has retained many of its previous landscape buildings. Strolling through Jingliao Old Street is like walking into old time and space, and you can savor the unique style of the nostalgic old street. In addition, Jingliao Old Street was the filming location for the story of a secular girl’s growth. Many classic scenes were filmed here, including Carina Chan’s home. If you are interested, you can go on a pilgrimage. There is also an ice cream shop that has been open for over 80 years called Hexing Ice and Fruit Shop. It is said that it was quite popular in the past and was a very popular dating spot. It is not an exaggeration to say that it is the Starbucks of today.
- No. 308, Section 3, Jiankang Road, Anping District, Tainan City 70802
- Monday to Friday: 8:00 ~ 12:00
- Closed on Saturdays and Sundays
(Tainan District Court is a Baroque building, very solemn and magnificent. )
Tainan District Court was originally the site of the Qing Ma Barracks. It was built after the Japanese occupied Taiwan and is a local court under the jurisdiction of the Taiwan Governor-General’s Office. Japanese authorities tried the Xilai’an Incident, a large-scale armed anti-Japanese action, in a local court. Later, after reconstruction, the new building was completed and put into use at Mabingying (later renamed Nanmen-cho 2-chome). It looks beautiful and elegant, and is a Baroque building. It is one of the three major buildings in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period. It was listed as a national second-class historical site in 1997. There are still cases in court right now, so if you have time you can go over and take a look! It is very solemn and magnificent, giving people a sense of fairness and objectivity.
Tainan Private Slow Travel Attractions︱Tainan Attractions Laotanghu Art Village
- No. 49-26, Meifeng, Fengheli, Xuejia District, Tainan City
- Business hours: Monday to Sunday 8:00 ~ 18:00

(The quaint Laotanghu Art Village Source: Laotanghu Art Village official website)
Laotanghu Art Village was created by Taiwanese finger painter Kuang Yi. He gathered materials from more than one hundred ancient houses and rebuilt the Laotanghu Art Village, giving it a strong retro artistic atmosphere. If you want to indulge in ancient costumes, there is also a costume rental service. Friends who are interested can go to the site to ask about the price. However, the art village does not provide meals such as lunch. There are only some snack stalls and snacks for sale, so I would like to remind everyone to pay attention to the time. If you are very hungry, there will be no regular meals to eat.
- No. 115, Anyi Road, Anping District, Tainan City
- Business hours: Monday to Sunday 9:00 ~ 19:00
(The renovated Deyang Ship has become the only military museum park in Taiwan. Source: Deyang Ship Park official website)
It was decommissioned in 2005 and officially became the Deyang Ship Park in 2015. It is the first warship museum in Taiwan, which records every detail of the Deyang ship since 1945. Come into the park and learn about the story of this flagship in the first half of the 20th century! Except for the fact that the inner park has not been opened yet, you can see all kinds of missile weapons when you walk onto the dock, which is guaranteed to be a feast for your eyes. What’s more, now there is also the cute Captain Wangwang to take photos with you! The contrast between the cute Wang Wang doll and the majestic battleship is really great. It makes people unable to stop pressing the shutter button! I recommend you to visit it when you go to Tainan.
Tainan West Central District Specialty Hotels
(The sky garden is beautiful, and there are hammocks for tourists to enjoy and rest)
Rest in the hotel is also very important when you go out to play. A good hotel allows you to relax your body and mind and recharge your batteries. It would be bad if you accidentally choose a mine. Here I would like to recommend a high-quality hotel to everyone, that is the Sandamen Architectural Cultural Hotel! Its purpose is to make guests feel as comfortable as returning home. In addition to the carefully decorated bar area on the first floor, which is full of the scent of books, people feel extremely comfortable as soon as they enter. The sky garden aesthetic gallery on the top floor of the hotel is even more beautiful, very unique and comfortable. If you want to rent it for an event, you can also make an appointment in advance.
(Different design styles are to meet the needs of customers, and you will always find a room that suits you)
In addition, each floor image is matched with corresponding building materials design according to different historical backgrounds and characteristics of the times, and the tile plan of each room is also different, such as the European-style snow-white floor tiles in the Dutch period, the wooden design in the Japanese colonial period, the exposed concrete in the Republic of China period, the industrial metal style in the modern development period, and the artistic style in the aesthetic period. Each one is carefully designed with three doors. I believe you can feel the full taste and delicate emotions as soon as you open the door.
