Speaking of Tainan events and celebrations, Yanshui Beehive Fireworks is definitely one of the highlights of the Spring Festival! After scaling down the scale of the show due to the pandemic last year, it finally lived up to everyone’s expectations and made a grand return this year! Every year between the 14th and 15th day of the lunar calendar, the sedan chair will set out from the Wu Temple and process through Yanshui. Along the way, believers will set off firecrackers at their doorsteps. In 2023, there will be celebrations with firecrackers along different routes during the day and night from February 4th to February 5th. There will be traffic control on the evening of February 5th, and large-scale firecrackers will be set off along the way! It is the highlight during the Lantern Festival in 2023! I recommend that you find time to experience the baptism of bee firecrackers.

With a history of over 300 years, “Shennong Street” is one of the best-preserved old street attractions in Tainan. As early as the Qing Dynasty, Shennong Street was the main downtown street in Wutiao Port Area. Many houses still retain the appearance of the Qing Dynasty and the Japanese colonial period. During the Spring Festival, there are endless crowds of people here. There are many authentic Taiwanese delicacies, ancient street scenery, and popular snacks. It is one of the must-visit attractions during the Spring Festival!

Linnei Station (formerly Chiayi Baolong Paper Factory)
(The picture shows the pulp tank preserved in Linnei Station. Image source: Linnei Station official website.)
The Linnei Post Station covers an area of about 2 hectares. During the Japanese colonial period, it was a paper mill with a large number of employees in Linnei Township. In addition to retaining the original three large pulp tanks, the most distinctive building in the park is the “Former Taiwan Mitsubishi Paper Works Office Building” (formerly known as Linnei Old Town Office), which has a history of more than 100 years. A light rail is set up in the park to connect to the Linnei Station, and it is equipped with offices, dormitories, water tanks, post offices, pulp tanks, etc. It is worth slowing down to savor and experience the joy of slow travel.
(The scene where banyan trees and houses coexist unexpectedly became a tourist attraction. Image source: photoAC.)
The building of Anping Tree House was originally a warehouse of the British merchant company Tuck & Co. during the Ming and Qing dynasties. After the Treaty of Shimonoseki ceded Taiwan, it was handed over to the Great Nippon Salt Company along with Tuck & Co. After the end of World War II, the warehouse was originally owned by Taiwan Salt, but was later left abandoned, so that the building was invaded and coexisted with banyan trees. After many years, it became the current appearance of a house and tree integrated into one, which has become a different kind of scenery and a tourist attraction.
Kaohsiung Dagang Bridge
(The Kaohsiung Dagang Bridge is very beautiful at night. Image source: flickr.)
Inspired by shells and dolphins, the Dagang Bridge, which was only opened in July 2020, looks like a large sailing ship across the Kaohsiung estuary. The Kaohsiung Dagang Bridge connects emerging cultural and creative attractions such as the Pier-2 Art Center and the Zhan-2 Warehouse. The Dagang Bridge also serves the purpose of transportation. The travel time between Pier 2 and Pier 2 can now be shortened to 5 minutes via the Dagang Bridge, which originally took more than 30 minutes. At 3 o’clock every afternoon, the Dagang Bridge will slowly rotate 90 degrees to allow ships on both sides to pass, and then return to its original state. The whole process takes about five minutes. Put it in your pocket list now!
(In order to make customers feel like they are staying in a luxury house, each room has been carefully designed according to the style of the floor)
Besides being located in the transportation hub of Tainan City, it is very convenient to go everywhere. The three doors carefully design each room, and each floor image is based on different historical backgrounds and characteristics of the times. In addition to matching the colors to create corresponding building materials designs, each room also has different designs according to different styles. The purpose is to give travelers an accommodation experience like that of a “luxury house”. If you are staying here during the Chinese New Year, you can ask in advance if there are any vacancies so that you don’t get into the dilemma of having no room to stay.
Everyone has the experience of “living in a luxury house”
(Sandaomen hopes that travelers can have the experience of staying in a luxury house while also having the intimacy of going home. The picture shows the lobby bar on the first floor)
The founder of Sandaomen was previously engaged in the construction of customized luxury homes in southern Taiwan. What he often hears is that people want to live in a luxury home but do not have enough money to buy one. Therefore, the founder came up with the idea that everyone could afford to live in a luxury house. Although not everyone can buy a luxury house and enjoy life, everyone can “experience” the atmosphere of living in a luxury house. Therefore, he led the Sanyelou team to create the Sandaomen Architectural Cultural and Creative Hotel. From the furnishings in the lobby, the design of the rooms to the sky garden on the top floor, he made luxury home life no longer out of reach.
