The Weaver Girl was taken back to the heavens; the Cowherd remained on earth.<\/p>\n

From then on the two were separated by the Milky Way, able only to long for one another across the distant river of stars.<\/p>\n

In the end, though, the Queen Mother was moved by the truth of their feelings, and granted them this:<\/p>\n

once a year, on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, they may meet.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On that day countless magpies fly up to the Milky Way and form a bridge with their bodies, so that the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl can cross and be together.<\/p>\n

And so Qixi is also known as<\/p>\n

“the day the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl meet”<\/strong>
\n– one of the most famous love stories in Chinese tradition.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
